Game Schedule

Dear Parents & Players – League has requested we NOT meet any earlier than 25 minutes beforehand (limited field space). BTW, thank you for volunteering @ Sign-up genius to bring halftime refreshments (e.g. Orange slices and Gatorade)!

Gentle reminder, players only need to wear uniforms to games (wear regular shirt and shorts to practice). Always wear cleats and shin guards. Don’t forget water bottles. Also, consider feeding your boys a light breakfast (e.g PowerBar before games). Each game Coaches will award one player to take home the MVP trophy for the week based on offensive & defensive performance, as well as sportsmanship.

Chelsea: 2-3-2 Formation

Formations are the way a soccer team lines up its defense, midfield, and forward line at the beginning of the match. Soccer is a fluid game where a midfielder may become a forward for five or ten minutes and then return to his original position. Or, likewise, a forward can come back to defend. Defenders are listed first and then midfielders and forward. For example, our 2-3-2 formation has two defenders (full backs), three midfielders (half backs), and two forwards (strikers or wings). Goalkeepers are not counted because they are the one position that has not changed over the years.

Soccer has many different positions and many different names that come along with them. Each player position has his own very specific task, from defending against opponent attacks to scoring. To simplify, we will categorize the football positions into four: the goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders, and forwards.

The goalkeeper is simply known as the guy with gloves who keeps the opponents from scoring. He has a special position because only him can play the ball with his hands (provided that he is inside his own penalty area and the ball was not deliberately passed to him by a team mate).

A defender’s task is to keep the ball away from the keeper, prevent opposing attackers from passing or receiving, and block shots. Defending requires a player to be well-fit, hard-working, and quick at anticipating the movement of the opponents.

Midfielders link the offense and the defense: they bring the ball up to the forwards in attack and prevent the ball from reaching the defenders when not in possession.

Forwards are the most celebrated players in the team because they are often the ones who score goals. A forward must be able to convert when his teammates give him the ball. Read more

In regulation football, the 4-4-2 is the most used formation in soccer today. The main strength of the 4-4-2 formation is true balance. Offensive attacks are combined with solid defense. Read more
